Title: The gas cycle of galaxies across environments


While it has become increasingly clear that there is a strong connection between galaxies and their  environment, we are still struggling to understand to what extent nurture shapes galaxy evolution, and  which are the dominant physical mechanisms involved. Studies of the cold hydrogen gas in and around  galaxies hold the key to reveal the nature and extent of environmental effects, as demonstrated by HI  surveys of galaxy clusters such as Virgo. However, what happens to the gas in the more common group  environment is still unclear, due to the lack of large surveys deep enough to probe the gas-poor regime  across all environments. In this talk, I will present results on this topic based on the deepest observations  of cold gas in galaxies currently available, as well as of spectral stacking of the largest stellar  mass-selected sample with HI data assembled to date.
