Abstract:

​Disk galaxies in the local Universe commonly host stellar bars that strongly influence their dynamical and secular evolution. Bars redistribute angular momentum among stars, gas, and dark matter halos, drive radial gas inflows, and play an important role in shaping central structures such as nuclear stellar rings and clusters. Despite their ubiquity, many fundamental questions remain regarding how bars form, evolve, and interact with their host galaxies. In this talk, I will present results from a suite of N-body simulations that explore the onset of bar formation in galaxies spanning a wide range of masses. The simulations are interpreted within the framework of swing amplification theory to clarify the physical mechanisms driving bar growth. I will also present the angular distributions of radial and azimuthal velocities in stellar and gaseous components, and discuss how these kinematic signatures can be used to infer bar strengths observationally. Finally, I will discuss the formation of nuclear stellar disks and rings in barred galaxies based on recent results from the SMUGGLE-Ring project.​
