Abstract:

​​The Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East and Southeast Asia (CCOP), based in Bangkok, is an intergovernmental and international organization uniting 16 member countries, 14 cooperating countries, and 19 cooperating organizations to advance geoscience in the region. Since its establishment in 1966 under United Nations, CCOP has evolved from a focus on geological surveys and resource exploration to a broader mission addressing today’s critical challenges, including critical minerals, groundwater management, geohazard mitigation, climate change, and urban geology.​

​A key dimension of CCOP’s work lies in the compilation, management, and open utilization of geoscientific data across its member countries. This rich regional knowledge base not only supports policy and industry but also provides valuable resources for research, teaching, and student training. CCOP emphasizes education, capacity building, and knowledge exchange as central to its vision, fostering the next generation of geoscientists through data sharing, seminars, and collaborative projects.

​By strengthening ties with universities and academic networks, CCOP aims to inspire and connect young scientists while linking regional expertise with global geoscience communities. Through these partnerships, CCOP contributes to building a resilient, knowledge-driven future and advancing sustainability on Earth.​
