Abstract:

​​Low–surface–brightness structures—especially the faint outskirts of galaxies—were once difficult to observe, but modern wide/deep imaging now places them at the center of galaxy‐evolution studies. These outer regions preserve the debris of past accretion events far better than bright galaxy centers and therefore provide a direct record of halo assembly.

Globular clusters (GCs) are ideal tracers of this regime. As old, luminous, and relatively simple stellar populations, they can be mapped to large radii and at greater distances than individual stars, enabling robust measurements of halo structure, mass, and environmental influence.

In this talk, we will present recent and ongoing work on the spatial structure and scaling relations of GC systems around nearby galaxies. We will show how GC extent and other properties correlate with host properties and environment, and how these relations constrain dark–matter halo size and assembly history. We will also discuss the formation and evolution of galaxies based on these results.
