Abstract:

​​​Monitoring urban CO2 emissions with satellite observations provides valuable insights for cities seeking to reduce their carbon footprint. NASA’s Orbiting Carbon Observatory-3 (OCO-3), launched in 2019, offers a unique opportunity to quantify urban CO2 emissions from space. This talk will present a methodology and results from a satellite-based CO2 emissions dataset covering 54 global cities. The talk will also highlight the current status of satellite-based urban emissions monitoring, key challenges that remain for broader adoption, and the potential role of these datasets in supporting decision-making by stakeholders and policymakers across global cities.​
