Abstract:

​​The numerical predictor-corrector guidance (NPCG) has been widely utilized for various atmospheric entry guidance missions. However, it is found that a linear bank angle parameterization that cooperates with the NPCG algorithm has limitations in satisfying the final condition required for the entry phase of future human missions to Mars. In response, this work proposes a novel bank angle parameterization based on a logistic function, which improves the energy preservation capability during the early entry phase. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the linear bank profile approach while maintaining computational efficiency.

The logistic function-based bank angle parameterization is designed to manage a single final constraint: the final range. The atmospheric entry phase of the future human Mars mission requires a precise final location, altitude, and velocity simultaneously. This work proposes an advanced entry guidance law to accommodate multiple final constraints through a quadratic bank parameterization. Monte Carlo simulation demonstrates that this approach effectively manages multiple constraints in the presence of random dispersions and errors. Additionally, a solution space analysis confirms the numerical feasibility of the proposed guidance algorithm, indicating that a unique solution exists.
