Abstract:

​Entrainment-mixing process and its impacts on clouds are fundamental to cloud physics, with further effects on aerosol-cloud interactions and cloud-climate feedback. Despite its importance, our understanding of how clouds respond microphysically to dry air entrainment remains incomplete, leading to significant uncertainties in climate research.

In this seminar, the fundamental concepts of the entrainment-mixing process will first be introduced, highlighting the mechanisms by which entrainment modifies cloud microphysical characteristics. The speaker will then present an investigation of

microphysical responses based on integrated analyses from multiple observational approaches, including aircraft measurements, helicopter-based observations, and cloud chamber experiments. These diverse observational platforms offer unique and

complementary perspectives—capturing in situ dynamics, vertical variability, and controlled environmental conditions—which together yield comprehensive insights into the entrainment-mixing process. Collectively, these findings provide valuable implications for improving cloud process representations and developing more accurate parameterizations in weather and climate prediction models.​
