Abstract:

This presentation addresses single-scattering and multiple-scattering (radiative transfer) by nonspherical particles. Knowledge of the scattering of polarized light by particles is inevitably necessary for numerous disciplines, including astrophysics, planetary sciences, bio-optics, radiative transfer, remote sensing, and climate science. In the case of spherical particles, the rigorous Lorenz-Mie theory was well established more than a hundred years ago. We will report state-of-the-art light-scattering computational capabilities developed at Texas A&M University. Furthermore, we demonstrate the use of the advanced light-scattering computational capability in downstream applications
